Audio

Self grading:

Criteria A:  6 - I showed adequate knowledge by connecting to themes and knowledge of the whole novel
Criteria B:  5 - I did not talk much about the effect on the reader
Criteria C:  3 - started with thesis and went into my points but was not able to finish - did not get to my conclusion
Criteria D:  3 - paused a bit and said um as I looked for the sentence from the passage to read

  1. Isabella! I think you did a great job and will do very well on your IOC. It is very apparent that you did much preparation for this practice IOC and you will definitely be well prepared for the real deal one! I agree with the grading that you gave yourself, as long as you get to all of your points I think you will do very well!

  2. I agree with Christina. I liked how well thought out this was, and the points that you covered were really good. You should be well prepared for the IOC. I think that your grading was good, the only thing that I would say, is you may have graded yourself slightly to harsh on Criterion A. I would move you into the 7-8 range

  3. So first of all, you were kind of awesome?!? You showed a clear understanding of the text. I even thought your pauses were sometimes necessary since your analysis was so great. You did a good job on referring back to the excerpt and connect it back to the book as a whole. Throughout the entire recording, it was clear that you knew the text and each character. I would mention more stylistic features though. It was great!!

  4. Hey!

    A: 6
    B: 4
    C: 3
    D: 4

I'm excited to hear your real IOC- you've really thought about what you might need to work on. Some thoughts: I like the background you give and that you pretty much jump right in (be careful that you aren't spending too much time giving background)- you sound calm and organized. I think you've got a some use of devices here, but keep linking back to the overall purpose of the passage. That's really the effect. Keep thinking...why is Ishiguro doing what he's doing in the passage? How do you know? I also think you have clear organization in your planning, but thinking about the two questions I mention will help keep it more organized orally. As far as analysis/devices- use the big 5: https://www.thinkib.net/englishalanglit/page/11116/the-big-5. Definitely review the IOC materials I gave out last week.
