It was... and I was...

Image
I could spend this whole blog talking about every detail of my high school experience, but I'll just highlight the parts that I will remember past high school.  To say the least, high school was an experience.  It is not just black and white, there were the parts that encouraged me to grow and the parts that changed me whether they be good or bad.  In high school I was always (am cause we're not done just yet?) known for being "the quiet one" and honestly it was never something that truly bugged me.  I am comfortable in silence as sometimes you should not just talk to talk.  I say things when I actually have something to say.  I do believe that being "the quiet one" has made people doubt me and that has sometimes allowed me to doubt myself.  But, I get over it because nobody should judge me because of my quiet nature... it just shows they need to be talking all the time and sometimes that is just annoying.  Anyway I can't think of much else to say a

Whitman's Notebooks

Image
Document Observations: The cover of Whitman's notebook looks worn out and is discolored.  This signifies the use it was to Whitman, he must have had it and used it for a very long time in order for it to become like that.  This must have been a meaningful possession to Whitman by carrying it around and making a lot of use out of the journal.  He is a poet and most writers need a place to write down their thoughts at anytime of the day and that could include Whitman too.  The first writing I could read was his page titled "Brochure."  It talks about dialogue and between people and mentions the president elect which at the time was Abraham Lincoln.  I also noticed the stamp that was on the first page is on the second as well.   This stamp says "Liberty of Congress."  He could have used this stamp in order to categorize these thoughts on this page and the previous one (and whichever ones had the stamp on it) to have something to do with his thoughts on the wo

American Dream

Image
The "American Dream" is what everyone that comes to America believes in, possibly even Americans believe in it too.  However, I feel that born Americans know the truth of America then people coming to America to hope for the "American Dream."  The "America Dream" is what people believe in when they want America to let their dreams come true.  A dream for their family, wealth, and happiness.  The dream can go for people who are coming to America in order to have a better job or life.  I believe that the "American Dream" is surrounded with the thoughts of success and happiness, but I believe it can not be that unless the one wanting it works hard for it.  The "American Dream" can only come to those who takes risks and works hard for it.  There can be failures and successes all around the "American Dream," and it only truly can come to those who really want it and work for it even if they fail once or twice. While I believe

Don't judge a book by its cover...

Image
 (1) This cover is able to show who Kathy continues to be in the book, lonely.  Kathy is alone in a field with nobody around which is able to show that Kathy always felt alone in her feelings about remembering and highlighting her life in Hailsham.  The clothing she wears is a long sleeve shirt along with a skirt to below her knees.  The clothing she wears contrasts with the bright lighting in the picture and the sun reflecting off her golden hair.  The clothing she wears along with the fact that she looks pale emphasizes how Kathy has been separated from the outside world because she was in Hailsham which separated the clones from other humans.  The way that her head is looking down can put emphasize on her observant ways throughout the book because she is looking at the grass around her, which could also relate to her being separated from everything around her and the grass in a field is "new."  The text is very light and easily bendable with the background also emphasiz

Soap Operas Reflect Life (just bigger)

Four larger-than-life lessons from soap operas "And we can use those lessons to craft our own life stories. Soap operas teach us to push away doubt and believe in our capacity for bravery, vulnerability, adaptability and resilience. And most importantly, they show us it's never too late to change your story." - Kate Adams Summary: Kate Adams, a former assistant soap opera casting director for "As the World Turns," explains how soap operas can reflect problems in real life.  She tells four major take aways from reoccurring themes in soap opera series and pulls them out in order to tell a bigger theme to live by.  Each takeaway she presents she follows with a story of a character portraying the takeaway in the form of a overdramatic soap opera form, then explains the takeaway bigger, and then lastly explains the takeaway by explaining how a role model figure or CEO has used this theme in their own lives.  Her first takeaway is "surrender is not an

Hyde & Seek

Part 1: In chapter 1 the excerpt "He is not easy to describe" portrays Hyde in a despicable way from the very beginning.  Hyde is introduced in a way that puts his character in the dark side before even meeting the character for him to introduce himself to the audience in his own way.  The audience is automatically suspicious and put off by Hyde based off of the description Enfield tells, and for some reason the audience will trust Enfield with this description because he portrayed himself as worthy of truth from the beginning of the chapter with a description, all relaying trustworthy, good, shy friend characteristics.  However, Enfield is a minor character in the book but Hyde's mysteriousness continues on and this can be brought back to chapter one setting the tone with Hyde's character. In chapter 6 the excerpt "Now that that evil influence" portrays Jekyll as someone who is the friendly man on the street that everybody likes.  He is described to be
